The moment you put on a pair of flats, you’ll feel as if you could run forever. They weigh significantly less than even a pair of lightweight shoes. Imagine track spikes without the spikes—that’s essentially what racing flats are. So should you wear them in a fall race? If you’re doing a road 5K, they shouldn’t be a problem; you’re not likely to get injured running in them one time for 20 to 30 minutes. (However, do make sure you’ve had some experience with them.) If you’re running a road 10K and really want to PR, they should be fine, though a pair of lightweights should suffice.
